FAQ’s about the B.Tech Program

1. What is the process for the admission to the B. Tech. Programs?

Ans. Entrance Test
The admission to all these programs will be based on the Entrance Test to be conducted by Thapar University. All seats will be filled exclusively on the basis of Merit of Entrance Test of eligible candidates under each category.

2. Should I pay extra for attending online classes and study materials?

Ans. The cost of printed study materials which are vetted by IIT professors, online classes, practical lab sessions are delivered by the university at no extra cost. Also, students don’t need to pay anything extra as examination fees.

3. How will be the online classroom sessions conducted during the program?

Ans. Around 300 hrs of online live class room sessions are conducted regularly throughout the program to facilitate the learning process. These online live class room sessions are conducted through over iLinc a web collaborative tool. Attendance for these sessions is mandatory.

4. How can a student attend the online class room sessions?

Ans. Student can join the online classroom sessions over internet from their home, office or any cyber cafe.

5. Where will be the practical lab sessions conducted during the program?

Ans. Thapar University will set up lab work centres at engineering colleges at major cities across India to conduct the practical lab sessions at 16 hrs per practical Lab course.

6. Will the practical lab sessions be conducted in all the cities?

Ans. The facility for practical lab session at the particular work centre in a city will be provided to the student if and only if there are 15 or more students in a branch each semester. In case the numbers of students in a branch each semester are less than 15 then they have to attend the practical lab session at their nearest work centre at their own expenses.

7. What if a student couldn’t attend the practical lab sessions? Will he be allowed to attend the lab sessions again?

Ans. In the event the student fails to attend their practical lab sessions in the current semester or gets a back-log in lab course, the student as a special case will be allowed to take the same in subsequent semester only after providing acceptable reason for not being able to attend the same. He will then be allowed to attend the lab session in subsequent semester as per Thapar University norms.

8. When and where will be the end term examinations conducted?

Ans. End term examinations will be held twice in a year – February and July. Thapar University will set up exam centres at major cities across India. The centre for end term examination will be allotted in a city if and only there are 20 students of all the branches in a semester. In case the numbers of students are less than 20 then they have to attend the semester end examination at their nearest examination centre at their own expenses.

Ans. Entrance test will be held twice in a year – March and August. Thapar University will set up exam centres at major cities across India. The centre for entrance examination will be allotted in a city if and only there are 20 students of all the branches in a semester. In case the numbers of students are less than 20 then they have to attend the semester end examination at their nearest examination centre at their own expenses.

10. Is there any maximum time period allotted to complete the program?

Ans. Three-Year Program shall have to be completed within the time-frame of maximum 6 years provided the admission is taken to continue the course as per the policy of Thapar University.

11. Is there any face to face contact classes?

Ans. A student can attend face to face contact classes for one week in Thapar University, Patiala. Boarding and lodging will be arranged by Thapar University. This is not mandatory.

12. Is it compulsory to give the entrance examination to get the admission?

Ans. As per the AICTE norms, conducting the entrance test for admission is mandatory. Objective type questions will be asked to test the practical knowledge of the applicant. Syllabus for the entrance test can be downloaded from the link given below.

13. I live in a foreign country, can I apply for the program?

Ans. Yes, but the end term examination and practical lab sessions will be conducted in the work centres established by Thapar University across India. Currently there is no such work centre established outside India. However, in near future work centres will be established outside India too.

While a student can attend the online classes delivered from Thapar University from anywhere- home, office or cybercafé, even outside India, he should appear in any of the work centers in India for writing examination and attending lab sessions.

14. Is it possible to submit the assignments again to improve the marks obtained already?

Ans. No, it is not possible. If you submit the assignments once, the marks given to the same will be considered as final for the results.

15. What if a student doesn’t submit the assignment in a semester? Will he be allowed to submit the assignment again?

Ans. Yes, he can submit the assignment in the subsequent semester. But if he has already passed the subject without submitting the assignment then he is not required to submit it.

16. Is there any rechecking option for the declared results?

Ans. No there is no option for rechecking.
